About Us

NY Care Information Gateway is a Regional Health Information Organization (RHIO). A RHIO is a not-for-profit organization made up of health providers in a region. By using technology to store, protect, and share patient health information, the goals are to:

• Improve the quality and safety of healthcare
• Protect the privacy of patients
• Lower costs

Who is in Charge of Your Vital Health Information?

If you are like most people, you receive healthcare services in more than one place. Information about these services is kept separately in each doctor’s office, specialist practice, lab, and hospital. Getting the information takes time. If your doctors could access it quickly, it could help them make better informed decisions about your care.

The Health and Well Being of Your Family is Your First Concern

Patients want their doctors to have the information they need to make the best decisions about their healthcare. They want this especially in an emergency.

  • A nationwide study* found that information technology in healthcare is outdated.
  • Doctors are not able to get patient information when they need it.
  • It causes patients to become upset, and leads to high costs, and needless errors.

Our Community is Uniting for Better Healthcare

Across the country, RHIOs like NY Care Information Gateway are working to change this. They make it possible for doctors to get the health information they need, where and when they need it.

Patients are Invited to Participate in the Network

Patients can participate in NY Care Information Gateway for free. If your doctors or local hospital are members of NY Care Information Gateway, you can sign up at their offices. Click here to see our list of Participating Providers.

NY Care Information Gateway Serves the Local Community

The New York eHealth Collaborative (NYeC, pronounced “Nice”) is a not-for-profit organization, working to improve healthcare for all New Yorkers through health information technology (Health IT). To achieve this goal NYeC has partnered with the New York State Department of Health to create an electronic health records network to provide access to patient information in the state of New York. This network, which is governed by NYeC, is known as the Statewide Health Information Network of New York or SHIN-NY (pronounced “shiny”).

NY Care Information Gateway is a not-for-profit organization that is a member of the SHIN-NY. Under this affiliation, NY Care Information Gateway is funded by New York State to build and participate in an innovative public network designed to give doctors, hospitals, and other healthcare providers access to clinical information from providers across the state.
